They will participate in a number of beautiful rites with the entire parish community praying for them on their journey.

Baptism for Adults

Would you like to be part of the Catholic Church and are over the age 7, have not been Baptized or were Baptized in another Faith tradition?

You are invited to attend our OCIA classes. This year with the beginning of Partners in the Gospel, we will combine our classes with Holy Family Kirkland.

Reconciliation

Reconciliation is making restitution for a wrong that has been committed. Reconciliation must not take place exclusively in the head; it must be expressed in acts of charity and in solidarity with others. One does penance also by praying, fasting, and supporting the poor spiritually and materially.

At St. John Vianney

Reconciliation is available:

Every Saturday from 3:30-4:30pm (Excluding Holy Saturday)
- The day of the Parish Gala - November 9, 2024, reconciliation will be from 3:15-3:50pm.

The Reconciliation Room is next to our Adoration Chapel.

After First Reconciliation preparation, children may receive the Sacrament during our Lenten Communal Reconciliation Service or during our parish's scheduled Reconciliation time - Saturdays from 3:30-4:30pm in the Reconciliation room off the Adoration Chapel.

A supply fee of $80.00 per child is requested.

Contact Laura Stanger at 425-823-0787 or Lstanger@sjvkirkland.org for more information.

Eucharist

Holy Eucharist is the sacrament in which Jesus Christ gives his Body and Blood – Himself – for us, so that we too might give ourselves to him in love and be united with him in Holy Communion. In this way we are joined with the one Body of Christ, the Church.

If you are homebound and would like to receive communion, please contact the Parish office for a Pastoral Care Minister to come for a visit.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the sacrament that completes Baptism; in it the gift of the Holy Spirit is bestowed upon us. Anyone who freely decides to live a life as God’s child and asks for God’s Spirit under the signs of the imposition of hands and anointing with chrism receives the strength to witness to God’s love and might in word and deed. She/He is now a full-fledged responsible member of the Catholic Church.

Marriage

The sacrament of Marriage comes about through a promise made by a man and a woman before God and the Church, which is accepted and confirmed by God. Because God himself forms the bond of sacramental marriage, it is binding until the death of one of the partners.

Marriage Preparation

Notify the parish office at least 6 months before your wedding.

The first step in planning your wedding is to fill out the 29.1 form. Please contact the parish office to set up a time to do that with the pastor. If there are any previous marriages from either party to be married, we may need to go through an annulment process before we schedule your wedding. (See Annulment information below.)

We ask that you attend Pre-Marriage Classes in preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage.  A list of available classes will be given to you to schedule what works for the two of you.

A meeting will also need to be schedule with your witnesses for the wedding. One witness for the bride and one witness for the groom. It does not have to be the best man or maid/matron of honor, but it can be. It needs to be someone who you have known for some time and can vouch for your freedom to marry.

Download, fill out, and return the Marriage Preparation Form to the parish office to enroll in our Marriage Preparation Program. If you want to be married at St. John Vianney Parish, download our Marriage Planning Booklet for fees and other information.  Please contact Laura Stanger with any additional questions.

Annulment of a Prior Marriage

If either member of a couple seeking a Catholic wedding has been married before and the spouse is not deceased, an official church declaration of “freedom to marry” (annulment) must be received before a wedding date can be set.

Please contact the parish office to schedule a meeting with our pastor and he will let you know the details. Roberta Hatfield, our amazing advocate can also meet with you to help you through the process.

Holy Orders

The priests of the Old Covenant saw their duty as mediating between heavenly and earthly things, between God and his people. Since Christ is the “one mediator between God and men” (1 Tim 2:5), he perfected and ended that priesthood. After Christ there can be an ordained priesthood only in Christ, in Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross, and through a calling and apostolic mission from Christ.

At St. John Vianney

If you are interested in becoming a Priest or Deacon please contact our priests in the parish office and he will lead you in the right direction.

Anointing of the Sick and Funerals

Anointing of the Sick imparts consolation, peace, and strength and unites the sick person, in her/his precarious situation and her/his sufferings, with Christ in a profound way. This sacrament helps unite those who are suffering with Jesus' saving and healing power. For a dying person, the sacrament is preparation for passing over to eternal life, which often takes place in homes, nursing homes, and hospitals.

At St. John Vianney

Anointing of the sick can also occur in a church and is given to the seriously ill, injured, elderly, or to a person who is going to have surgery. If you are in need of this sacrament, you are welcome to receive an anointing after the 9:00am Mass every first Friday of the month. You may also schedule an appointment for an anointing by contacting the parish office.

If you have an emergency (sick or dying) and require a priest after hours there is one on call at Eastside Pastoral Care: 425-655-3200.
