They will receive the gifts of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist, all at once at the during our Easter Vigil Celebration. Children will attend classes along with their parents to grow and learn about Our Catholic Faith. They will participate in a number of beautiful rites with the entire parish community praying for them on their journey.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

Would you like to be part of the Catholic Church and are over the age 7?

Adults will attend our RCIA class, which will begin in November 2022 over Zoom on Thursday Evenings from 7-8 pm

If you are interested in learning more about the Catholic Church and are considering becoming Catholic and were either not Baptized or were Baptized in another faith tradition, please talk with Fr. Vu or a member of the parish staff to learn more about the process. If you know of someone who is interested, or has a spark within them, an inkling of becoming Catholic, and joining the Catholic Faith Community, please contact the parish office as well.

Reconciliation

Reconciliation is making restitution for a wrong that has been committed. Reconciliation must not take place exclusively in the head; it must be expressed in acts of charity and in solidarity with others. One does penance also by praying, fasting, and supporting the poor spiritually and materially.

At St. John Vianney

Reconciliation is available:

Every Saturday from 3:30-4:30pm
(Excluding Holy Saturday and the day of the Parish Gala - November 4)

The Reconciliation Room is next to our Adoration Chapel.

First Reconciliation for the  2023-24 School year:

Children at or about the age of 7 years must have received the curriculum for the Sacrament of Reconciliation before they begin learning about the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Parents and children will attend sessions together. Each session will be offered twice to accommodate everyone's schedules.

After First Reconciliation preparation, children may receive the Sacrament during our Lenten Communal Reconciliation Service or during our parish's scheduled Reconciliation time - Saturdays from 3:30-4:30pm in the Reconciliation room off the Adoration Chapel.

A supply fee of $80.00 per child is requested.

Contact Laura Stanger at 425-823-0787 or Lstanger@sjvkirkland.org for more information.

Eucharist

Holy Eucharist is the sacrament in which Jesus Christ gives his Body and Blood – Himself – for us, so that we too might give ourselves to him in love and be united with him in Holy Communion. In this way we are joined with the one Body of Christ, the Church.

If you are homebound and would like to receive communion, please contact the Parish office for a Pastoral Care Minister to come for a visit.

First Communion

Confirmation

Confirmation is the sacrament that completes Baptism; in it the gift of the Holy Spirit is bestowed upon us. Anyone who freely decides to live a life as God’s child and asks for God’s Spirit under the signs of the imposition of hands and anointing with chrism receives the strength to witness to God’s love and might in word and deed. She/He is now a full-fledged responsible member of the Catholic Church.

SJV Confirmation Classes

SJV Confirmation Preparation Classes will start in September of 2023 for 7th graders through 12th graders. Please email Maybeth Terashima - mterashima@sjvkirkland.org - with any questions.

Marriage

The sacrament of Marriage comes about through a promise made by a man and a woman before God and the Church, which is accepted and confirmed by God. Because God himself forms the bond of sacramental marriage, it is binding until the death of one of the partners.

Marriage Preparation

Notify the parish office at least 6 months before your wedding.

The first step in planning your wedding is to fill out the 29.1 form. Please contact the parish office to set up a time to do that. If there are any previous marriages from either party to be married, we may need to go through an annulment process before we schedule your wedding. (See Annulment information below.)

We ask that you attend “Preparing to Live in Love” sessions with a mentor couple as part of your preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage.

OR

You may attend the “Betrothed Retreat” together at the Archdiocesan Retreat Center.

After these sessions have been scheduled, you will also need to schedule an appointment with Father Vu to fill out the appropriate paperwork for your wedding.

A meeting will also need to be schedule with your witnesses for the wedding. One witness for the bride and one witness for the groom. It does not have to be the best man or maid/matron of honor, but it can be. It needs to be someone who you have known for some time and can vouch for your freedom to marry.

Download, fill out, and return the Marriage Preparation Form to the parish office to enroll in our Marriage Preparation Program. If you want to be married at St. John Vianney Parish, download our Marriage Planning Booklet for fees and other information.

Annulment of a Prior Marriage

If either member of a couple seeking a Catholic wedding has been married before and the spouse is not deceased, an official church declaration of “freedom to marry” (annulment) must be received before a wedding date can be set.

Please contact the parish office to schedule a meeting with Father Vu and he will let you know the details. Roberta Hatfield, our amazing advocate can also meet with you to help you through the process.

Holy Orders

The priests of the Old Covenant saw their duty as mediating between heavenly and earthly things, between God and his people. Since Christ is the “one mediator between God and men” (1 Tim 2:5), he perfected and ended that priesthood. After Christ there can be an ordained priesthood only in Christ, in Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross, and through a calling and apostolic mission from Christ.

At St. John Vianney

If you are interested in becoming a Priest or Deacon please contact Father Vu in the parish office and he will lead you in the right direction.
